Adopt an Aunt or Uncle

The Adopt an Aunt or Uncle Ministry was begun with the concept that the elderly needed companionship and contact from outside the nursing home. White Bluff Chapel coordinates with the activities director at Park Plaza Nursing Home to match up folks from the Chapel (male and female) with residents who would like to have someone to visit them regularly. This has been a successful ministry almost since the Chapel was established. There is always a need for additional Aunts and Uncles at the nursing home, so please contact the Chapel sponsors if you would like to participate in this fulfilling ministry.

The Adopt an Aunt or Uncle ministry includes activities additional to visitation:

At the Santa’s Helpers event, which is put on each December, a “store” is set up at the nursing home with small gift items donated by the Chapel members. The event gives the residents an opportunity to select gift items for their family and friends. This is a favorite event of the residents since they seldom, if ever, have a chance to go shopping.

Special music is always a favorite, with small music groups visiting any time of the year and the Chapel choir coming around each Christmas to lead caroling.

A picnic is held usually in the spring and fall at Isaiah’s Place. We have hamburgers, hot dogs, music and games for the nursing home residents who are able to go out for the day.

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Park Plaza. Those interested should contact Diane Orban, the Park Plaza activities director.

at Park Plaza Nursing Home
 oment  Posted December, 2014

Santa's Workshop/Gift Day was held at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney on Wednesday, December 17 this year. Each year White Bluff Chapel volunteers collect gift items that the Park Plaza residents can select as gifts for their relatives and friends, or even just for themselves! The residents are each assisted in making their selections by a personal shopper from among the WBC helper elves, and that personal shopper also wraps the gifts for the resident.

Personal shopping elves turning out to bring Christmas cheer to the Park Plaza residents were Gayle Kralik, Amy Dupree, Schelly Storm, Vicki Shultz, Martha Gordon, Carol Bartlett, Ginger Seurkamp, Jena Bodecker and Ken Cole. Charlie and Chris Whisenand were the chief elves who organized the project.

ission  WBC Hosts Park Plaza Picnic
 oment  May, 2012

The Aunts and Uncles Mission of White Bluff Chapel recently hosted the annual spring picnic for the residents of Park Plaza Nursing Home. An additional six residents of the Park Plaza Assisted Living facility joined the group for the first time this year. The event was once again held at Isaiah's Place on a glorious Wednesday afternoon.

Guests were fed a picnic lunch of grilled hamburgers and chips, prepared by Harry Seurkamp and Larry Turner. Martha and Sam Gordon and Charlie and Chris Whisenand provided a thirty-minute program of songs, to which they encouraged the residents to sing along. A Bingo game, with prizes for the winners, was organized by Ginger Seurkamp. Other Chapel members participating in the event included Linda Turner, Schelly Storm, Cheryl Robinson, and Tom and Sharon Parker.
