WOMEN'S MINISTRY

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
Colossians 3:16

The Women’s Ministry of the White Bluff Chapel is composed of women dedicated to glorifying God while ministering to the White Bluff community, Whitney, Hill County, and beyond.

This includes:

  • Participation in the “Critters” ministry.  “Critter Ladies” make hand-stitched stuffed-animal “critters” to be distributed to children in crisis.  They are also provided to nursing home residents.  This ministry extends locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • Providing meals through “Angels in Action” with guidance from the WBC Pastoral Care and Outreach Coordinator.

  • Participation and support of numerous WBC ministry/mission endeavors.

Feel free to contact the church office for more information.

Women’s Groups preparing for Easter

The Women’s Knit and Crochet and Critters met on the third Tuesday to work on several special projects.  The Critter ladies were sewing and stuffing Easter ducks and bunnies.  These critters are popping up all over the world.  They have traveled on Mission trips outside of the United States and ridden in police cars locally waiting to comfort a child in need.  They are even showing up in our public library.  Did you know that critters love to be read to by children?

The Knit and Crochet ladies came and selected new yarn for their special projects.  Several ladies came in to share their finished projects.  These ladies have reached out to our community with baby blankets.  This new ministry is called Welcome Home Baby Pantry sponsored by the Home Church of Lake Whitney.  The Knit and Crochet ladies donate crocheted or knitted blankets.

Another project that is spear headed by Marsha Brown is creating comfort items for cancer patients.  Several scarves, shawls, and blankets been crocheted or knitted to keep the patients warm and let them know that others are thinking of them during their journey.  They also sewed several small rice bags.

Critters and Knit and Crochet Groups

The ladies in the Critters and Knit and Crochet groups have had a busy year!  This year, the Critters’ group made 1,750 little stuffed animals.  These animals were given as gifts for the Kidzone’s Happy Birthday Jesus party, to the food bank, and have traveled the world on various mission trips.  This group has made over 42,329 little animals since 2001.

The ladies in the Knit and Crochet group have created 43 blankets and Afghans that were made especially for our friends at the Town Center.  They also made over 100 baby caps for the infants in Hillcrest’s NICU.  Each child was also given a handmade blanket after each Dedication service.

What a special group or ladies with a giving heart!

Women of WBC Cookie Exchange Time

Saturday, December 7th, women of the WBC gathered in the Fellowship Hall for a fun morning.  Each lady baked two dozen cookies and put them in bags of four cookies for the exchange.  There were sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, ginger snap cookies, molasses cookies, peanut butter cookies, just to name a few.  After a delicious brunch, each lady went through the line to select a different two dozen cookies to take home.

We would like to thank our hosts Marla Bennett, Kelly Bransom, Melissa Hayes and Stacy Hughes for creating this yummy fun event!

Blessing The Handmade Blankets

The Critters and Knit and Crochet ladies met last week.  During this special meeting, Pastor Randy was invited to come and bless thirty two handmade blankets. These blankets will be given to cancer patients at Texas Oncology. A total of 72 blankets have been made so far. Also, several small caps, created by Carolyn Williams, were blessed.  These baby caps will go to the NICU at Scott and White Hillcrest in Waco.

Ladies Luncheon

With a theme of "Living in Our Season", the ladies luncheon began with a devotion that reminded us that the seasons of our life are much like the seasons in a year.  Each season brings some positives and some negatives.  Things we enjoy and things we don't. Staying in the moment and reflecting on God's grace and his mercy each day as we handle life is essential.  Over eighty women met to have a delicious meal, a meaningful devotion and the event was completed by a comedian who was the perfect entertainment to finish the event.  There were door prizes and a delicious buffet of lunch and desserts.   Each person received a "goody bag" with candy and wildflower seeds to take with them.

Critter Ladies busy during VBS

A special group of ladies meet monthly to create small handmade stuffed pillows called "Critters".  Recently, they created some special fish to correlate the VBS Splash theme.  The ladies created the fish form and the younger children in the VBS classes stuffed the fish while learning about this mission.

Critters was created to offer comfort to children passing through the emergency rooms of hospitals in Hillsboro and Whitney.    Currently, Critters are provided to Whitney Family Medicine Clinic, Whitney and Hillsboro Health-Now Urgent Care, Hill County Regional ER, CPR in Hillsboro, EMT and Police Departments in Whitney, Goodall-Wicher Clinic in Clifton and Mission Hillsboro Medical clinic.  Critters are also made for Shoeboxes at First Baptist Church and the Whitney Food Pantry at Christmastime.  They have also been stuffed in suitcases traveling to children around the world.  What a wonderful mission!

Critters

Thanks to the WBC Ministry Opportunity sheets, there were SEVEN new people who joined Critters and Knit/Crochet. There was also a lot of interest at our Mission Sunday. The "Halloween" cats are finished and it is time to start working on "Christmas" puppies for the Food Bank and Samaritan's Purse.

Our friend Beth Woolsey has been busy making "aprons" for our Whitney nursing home residents.

Mom 2 Mom

We are excited to introduce a new group to White Bluff Chapel.  Mom 2 Mom is a group comprised of new moms and their children from the Whitney area. They meet in the Children’s room on Wednesday evenings at 6:00.  This is a time for getting to know one another, fellowship, and play time for the children.

Mother’s Day Luncheon

Almost 80 ladies attended the Mother’s Day Luncheon, Saturday.  The Hospitality Committee, led by Mary Parish, prepared a large variety of salads:  tuna, chicken, pasta, pea, tossed, potato, and fruit.  Homemade desserts were also available to devour.

A fashion show starring: Lynn Louthan, Joyce Triplett, Madeleine Lively, Jan Camp, Janet Gummelt, and Gail Warren entertained the ladies.  The fashion show’s master of ceremony was Teresa Wyatt, owner of Daughter’s Dream Boutique.

Each lady was gifted a coin purse with candy and rose petal soap.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study Luncheon

The Wednesday Women's Bible Study just wrapped up their fall study, "Twelve Women of the Bible," this past week with a Christmas celebration at Karen Paxton's beautiful home.  We will be starting up a new study with David Jeremiah called, "Christ Above All (study guide)," on Jan. 11, 2023 at 10:00.  Anyone is welcome!

Ladies Bible Study Luncheon

Our Ladies Bible Study who met weekly during the school year, gathered on Friday, June 25th for an end of year luncheon at Pat Griffin’s Ranch.  Pat led us in a review of our Max Lucado study, “Experiencing the Heart of Jesus”.  She encouraged everyone to continue the study through the summer.  Plans for the fall include a second Ladies Bible study on Tuesday afternoon in addition to the Friday morning Bible study.

Critters at the Chapel

Since the fall of 2001, small handmade stuffed pillows called "Critters" have been provided to several local hospitals and clinics. This ministry was started with Sandy Cannon at the helm, making stuffed animals for children passing through the emergency rooms of hospitals in Hillsboro and Whitney.  Providing Critters has expanded to all children who need a special smile or just a little comforting in our area hospitals.

Are you a “Critter Lady?” If not, you are invited to join the group. You don’t need to know anything about sewing, nor do you need any special talent. Just come for the fun and they’ll show you how to “stuff.” The ladies meet from 10 am until noon on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in the Maurice Martin Fellowship Hall of the White Bluff Chapel. If you would like to be involved but cannot attend the meetings, you can still contribute to the Critter efforts by sewing and/or stuffing at home. There is also a group of Knit and Crochet Ladies who make special creations for senior adults who need caps and afghans.

Currently, Critters are provided to Whitney Family Medicine Clinic, Whitney Health-Now Urgent Care, Hill County Regional ER, CPR in Hillsboro, EMT and Police Departments in Whitney, Goodall-Wicher Clinic in Clifton and Mission Hillsboro Medical clinic.  Critters are also made for Shoeboxes at First Baptist Church and the Whitney Food Pantry at Christmastime.

Caring Meals Ministry

Every Tuesday evening, Mary Parish makes meals for our Caring Meals ministry.  Anyone can sign up for a meal and make a donation as they pick up their meal at our “drive-thru”.  This service is designed to help those during Covid-19 that needed a meal brought to them at least once a week.  It has become so popular with others who want to make a donation and have a great meal, that we serve around 40 people each week.

Ladies Bible Study

The ladies in our community have several options for Bible Study at White Bluff Chapel.  “Experiencing the Heart of Jesus,” by Max Lucado, is taught on Wednesday via Zoom and on Fridays for those who prefer to meet in person.  This allows not only a choice of meeting in person or on Zoom, but also the opportunity to attend either day of each week for the same lesson.

Bible Study Fellowship meets at our chapel each Thursday morning at 10:00.  Any women interested in studying Matthew in BSF starting September 16th should email Amy at wacobsfdw@gmail.com for more information.
